My boy & I went out for the opening of Minnesota’s inland walleye season
Onward. Forward.
The outdoors is my escape. Over the weekend, roughly a half-million anglers took to Minnesota’s lakes & rivers for the opening of the walleye/pike season. My son & I were 2 of them. I traditionally go out at midnight on “the opener.” Partially to get away from the crowds, but also because I genuinely enjoy fishing at night. We had to wait for a small storm, so we didn’t launch the “get out the vote boat” till 12:30 am Saturday. We didn’t land our 1st fish until 3:30 am, but it was worth the wait. In addition to catching a quality fish, I got to spend some much needed quality time with 1 of my kids.
I went home, got some sleep, and hit the road that afternoon for a campaign stop in Lamberton, which is 3 hours south of Wadena. Before this campaign began, I fished about as much as a person with a day job could. I refer to it as “making time.” Since launching this campaign 426 days ago, I’ve done my best to stay grounded by making time to go outside & play. With only 175 days until the midterms, these excursions will likely become fewer & farther between. Such is the path I’ve chosen.

Huge thanks to all those who continue to put in the work in all 38 counties in Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District.
One of our goals in the month of May is to revisit as many local DFL units as we can before the busyness of the summer schedule sets in. This past week, we visited:
- Kandiyohi County
- Stevens County
- Pope County
- Polk/Red Lake County
- Redwood County
The intent behind this “Thank You Tour” is to express gratitude to the people who are putting in the work at the local levels & helped us earn the DFL endorsement. It also gives us an opportunity to communicate face-to-face about the HOW of this campaign moving forward. As I mentioned last week, we are shifting some of our attention to the winning of hearts & minds of voters we haven’t met yet.
The week ahead
It is going to be another busy week. We are planning multiple stops in multiple counties. Plus, there were some virtual opportunities to connect with our campaign.
